Pat Robertson lovingly recommends assassination

What would Jesus do? Assassinate the president of Venezuela, apparently. At least according to Pat Robertson, theocrat Republican leader and one of the biggest blights on world Christianity today. This guy makes Pope Ratzinger I look like a "liberation theologian."

Pat Robertson Calls for Assassination of Hugo Chavez: Televangelist Calls Venezuelan President a 'Terrific Danger' to the United States AP; AOL News 08/22/05

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson called on Monday for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific danger" to the United States.

Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former presidential candidate, said on "The 700 Club" it was the United States' duty to stop Chavez from making Venezuela a "launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."
Commumism, Islamism, feminism, liberalism, whatever. In Pat Robertson's twisted version of Christianity, as long as America is killin' foreigners, we're going the will of the Lord, so it seems.

The AOL News story also provides the following Robertson quotes taken from CNN.com, reminding us of the good reverend's (technically, former reverend) consistency in such call for Christian terrorism:

"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war." - On Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, August 2005

"If they look over the course of 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings." - On whether "activist judges" are more of a threat than terrorists, May 2005

"Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up." - Referring to the State Department's location while criticizing the agency, October 2003

Let's not forget: Pat Robertson is not a marginal figure in the Republicans Party. He is one of its most respected and influential leaders in his role as Christian Right honcho.
