A Christian view of authority

I enjoy going to Mass at my local parish.

The Gospel reading for the Catholic Church this weekend is Mark 1: 21-28, in which people begin to recognize that Jesus speaks "with authority". The priest talked some about the moral basis of authority. He used examples of parents and teachers.

He also used the example of a government which is based on the moral authority of a constitution. The executive in such a system, he said, has an obligation to enforce the Constitution. If the executive violates it, he said, "then he's a criminal. He should be prosecuted".

Sounds about right to me!
