Translating hidden messages

Maybe I'm the only person in the world that this never occurred to before today. But it just struck me that when the war fans whine that The Media aren't telling the "good news" about the Iraq War, that Christian fundamentalist Republicans may have been hearing a double message all along.

Because it's very common in evangelical churches (not all of which are fundi) to take off from the meaning of "gospel" to talk about "the Good News of Jesus", or simply "the Good News". It's used all the time to refer to the "message of salvation", aka, how you heathens and nonbelievers can get out of goin' to Hail.

So maybe the fundis have been hearing a deeper message all along, one that hasn't been immediately clear to those of us not washed in the blood of Christian dominionism. As in understanding, "The Media isn't reporting the good news from Iraq", to mean, "The Liberal Jew Media conspiracy isn't telling the Good News about Jesus, His greatest Prophet George Bush and their holy war in Iraq".

It's kind of like trying to pick up on figures of speech in a language other than your native tongue.
