Tuesday columns (short versions)

Obama's Balance Sheet by E. J. Dionne Jr. (liberal pundit) Washington Post 06/24/08: Obama's at least kind of a bad guy for rejecting public funding in the general election. McCain's breaking the campaign finance laws? Wha- ? Huh? What kind of dirty hippies would expect me to mention that?

The Bush Paradox by David Brooks (conservative Lightbringer pundit) New York Times 06/24/08: The Surge is working great. The dang hippies were wrong about it like they always are and dangerous too. Bush is a great man with some flaws here and there. Also "courageous and astute". (Yes, he means George W. Bush, our Dear Leader.) What would we less-evolved souls do without Lightbringer Brooks?

McCain's Core Advantage by Richard Cohen (kinda sorta liberal pundit) Washington Post 06/24/08: The Presidential race is all about "character" and all Big Pundits know that McCain the Maverick has the best one, being our greatest living saint and all. Oh, and Obama's a socialist. (For non-American readers, in the US, "socialist" is normally used as a synonym for "bad".) And McCain was a prisoner of war which shows his "character" is solid no matter how many unprincipled things he supports and Obama's a weird kind of guy like the Republicans all say he is and he was never a prisoner of war so McCain's obviously a better choice for President. Yes, our greatest pundits reason this way.

Race in the Sunlight by Eugene Robinson (liberal pundit) Washington Post 06/24/08: Did you know Obama is black? But Obama's the one bringing it up.
