Obama presented his justification for war on Libya in a speech today:
The words sound noble. Our leaders usually manage that when they want to go to war. They tell us how much we care about the freedom and human rights of the people we're about to bomb.
I wonder how the pretty words will sound six months from now. Or five years from now.
Beginning tomorrow, we're starting our ninth year year of the Iraq War begins. We're currently in our tenth year of the Afghanistan War.
One of my pet peeves in this video. Obama referred to himself as "your Commander-in-Chief." And it's clear in the context that he is referring to the American public in general. It may be horribly old-fashioned to say so. But the US Constitution is still the official framework of our government. And what Article 2, Section 2 says is, "The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States." At least in his Constitional role, the President isn't my Commander-in-Chief or any other citizens except those on active duty in the armed forces. I'm just saying.
