Geraldo has learned the good (!?) old segregationist formula for justifying lynch-murder

I see that Geraldo Rivera is jumping on to the latest conservative cause of justifying Trayvon Martin's murder. (Geraldo Rivera: Trayvon Martin Would Be Alive but for His Hoodie FOX News Latino 03/23/2012)

We're pretty much back to hardcore Mississippi circa 1955 on this one, only now it's the entire national Republican Party.

It's even the same formula: "Of course, I don't agree with THIS killing and the killer should be punished severely (nudge-nudge, wink-wink), BUT ..." There's probably two main variants of what comes after the "BUT". Geraldo uses the one that goes "BUT, you know, what could that kid expect being out in public and being black and all?"

The other would be "BUT ... what really, really, really makes me mad is all these damnyankees who try to say all Southerners are like that!" Evidence is not required that any damnyankees actually said such a thing, of course, and "Southerners", it goes without saying, are white Southerners in this formula.

Digby talks about the broadcast version of Geraldo's position in QOTD: Geraldo Rivera Hullabaloo 03/23/2012.
