Laura Rozen at her War and Piece blog continues to follow the story of ABC News source Alexis Debat, as in this 09/15/07 post and another of 09/16/07.
She also reports on it in Subject to Debat: Did ABC Know About Its Expert's Sourcing Problem? Mother Jones 09/14/07.
Debat, it appears from her reporting, was the main source for the story of the Cheney-Bush administration funding a group in Pakistan to make terrorist strikes on Iran from back in April of this year.
I don't believe I cited that report anywhere on this blog. But I do remember seeing the news item and seeing it as possibly another sign of the breadth of the Cheney-Bush covert war against Iran. Other experienced reporters with sound records, including Seymour Hersh, Robert Fisk and Patrick Cockburn have reported on aspects of the covert war. So there's very good reason to assume that such an endeavor is underway and has been for some time.
But it's important to recognize that bogus information does get into the news stream - and not just from the Republican propaganda efforts.
