Marty Peretz on Israel

Marty Peretz, who was owner of the New Republic for 34 years, in his blog post Not "Never Again!" But "Yes, Again and Again and Again" 08/11/08 gives a remarkable statement of his position on Middle Eastern politics:

Perhaps our most controversial fixation is in the defense of Israel, and--to tell you the truth--I care not a fig about how controversial it is. Israel's struggle is the old struggle of enlightenment against darkness, freedom against oppression, law against domination, spirit against enslavement, science against myth.

Wow! And he's not talking about a religion, he's talking about a country. A country run by fallible mortals like the rest of us. Wow!
