This is a one-hour-plus presentation, Europe's Two Depression 05/03/2012 from the Wilson School's YouTube channel, with wonky but reasonably accessible discussions of the European problems:
Krugman has been very good recently in reminding his listeners that the "European project" (the EU) is primarily about peace and democracy, not trade or currency.
But the failure of European leadership has let the problems with the euro currency endanger the other goals. It's been an amazing failure of leadership, 1914 levels of incompetency and irresponsibility and self-deception.
